Scope and Contents

This series contains unbound writs of fieri facias (fi fas) or tax executions. These records show the person in tax arrears, the amount of money owed and the date. They were usually signed by a justice of the peace or the tax collector. These records were found in the sheriff's office of the courthouse since one of the sheriff's duties at the time was to serve the fi fa upon the tax defaulter so named on the record.

Christopher Willis Orr papers

Contains incoming letters from Gilson and Orr cousins in Alabama and Mississippi and from Christopher's sister and brother-in-law, Martha E. Orr (b. 1828) and Andrew J. Stallings, newly-weds in Walton County, Georgia. Christopher Orr's Newnan Seminary (Coweta County, Georgia) speeches and records are included. One letter is from Sarah E. Strickland in Rose Bower, Georgia, to an unknown Jane. The last item is an unsigned, typed biography of Orr.
